This actually has nothing to do with the recent Cruise/ Holmes nuptuals....just something I started wondering when I was watching the 24/ 7 news coverage that led up to the big event. Let's say nothing of the fact that I KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS THERE RIGHT NOW, but I am probably not going to get any of the good scoop. Damn you, Scientology!
A long time ago, I was talking to this woman who was a secretary for a big executive at an investment bank. She told me anecdotally one day that she wasn't allowed to book her boss on the same plane as a certain number of other people on the Executive Committee (I forget the number). Something about how if the plane went down, the company would lose all this money because it couldn't run, etc, etc. I only vaguely recall the details, though this did seem very Lord of the Rings to me: "We six are the keepers of corporate information, and without us the company shall die."
OK, so cut to a couple of weeks ago, when I see this news footage (God knows why this was news) of Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Cameron Crowe, J.J. Abrams, Brooke Shields, Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith, and like three other famous people get on the SAME PLANE and take off for Tom and Katie's wedding.
Um....was that a good idea, having all those big-money stars on the same plane like that? Like, what if that plane crashed? I'm not even talking about what it must have been like with all those huge egos in one plane for nine hours, or that rumor that J Lo sent her assistant on before to take all the good seats for her and Marc Anthony's luggage, or even the fact that I don't find any one of them particularly talented (though Jada Pinkett Smith WAS really good in Collateral). I'm seriously talking about lost revenue, man. Those people are like PRODUCTS, they bring in millions of dollars for their respective studios, companies, record labels, or whatever, and I just think it's crazy that a bunch of studio heads would let them all on the same plane at the same time.
I'm just saying, for future multimillion dollar nuptuals that require international travel, maybe this should be a consideration. I can't believe I'm the only person to think of or even mention this.
