I know, it totally looks like I haven’t been updating this blog, and it’s so misleading, because I have been writing so much for it!
Of course, as we can clearly see, “writing so much” doesn’t really count when you’ve been writing on your Blackberry, or your iPhone, or into your actual notebook, ALL of which have at least one saved blog post in them that I have been meaning to sit down and transfer or transcribe, like my whole story about September 11 (we were there and I have been meaning to write the whole thing down for the past, um, eight years), an “anniversary” type story about how Stephan and I met, and even a story about how I was walking behind two people that looked like ordinary post-college yuppies, and suddenly they started talking about a knife fight in the backyard. I seem to have solved all of my computer problems and rebuilt everything for the time being (hallelujah), but the habits that I developed as workarounds are lingering, and now I have a bunch of stuff in various places that I need to edit and put up.
But before that, how’s your summer been? I’ve been so busy lately that when I finally got everything out the door (book, other book, book tour, UCLA class, other book, Quicken rebuild, taxes, co-op board), I experienced (and am perhaps still experiencing) sort of a post “push to deadline” malaise, like I was expecting all that work to culminate in a “big bang” of sorts. That is to say, you work and work, and do certain things every day, and cumulatively it all contributes to your body of work, but in the day to day of it, sometimes it’s not that exciting, and I still feel like I’m waiting for some big payoff to hit me. I’m serious!
So, I want to know, is this everyone’s experience right now, and is it maybe just because the global economic meltdown? Is everyone feeling like your efforts are not making a dent in your overall experience, and do you also feel like you’re waiting for some kind of big shift? This is interesting to me, perhaps even more interesting than the knife fight in the backyard.
I'm going to Baltimore on a business trip tomorrow, but I will soon return with all-new edited posts!
