In case you're wondering, January Jones had a baby almost two years ago, which means she was pregnant (or had just given birth) during the filming of Season Five. Since we are now well into Season Six and Mad Men takes an extremely long hiatus in between seasons, I am going to go out on a limb here and speculate that January Jones, with her entitled, smug, diva-like behavior and lack of actual acting skills, pissed off one or more of the producers, who punished her by writing her out of the primary action of the storyline and making her wear a fat suit for the episodes she was actually in, and that this went on for the past two years, until finally the purgatory was lifted with last Sunday's episode.
I don't know January Jones, so why do I think this? Oh, maybe because of this, or this, or this interview. You know, just about anything she does or anyone she talks to, that's all. Not even Zach Galifianakas likes her, ok? That's how much.
So, I have to say, it was with a heaping load of gleeful schadenfraude that I watched her fumble around in that fat suit for the past two seasons. You know she probabably starved herself after giving birth, and to have to watch herself fat onscreen like that-- priceless. Perfect Hollywood penance, even better than being the cause of the "Worst Episode of Saturday Night Live of all time." You know she was uncomfortable seeing herself this way, and how do you know? Because most of the press she did before Season Five and Season Six was not about the show, but about how SHE'S NOT REALLY FAT YOU GUYS IT'S SO WEIRD TO SEE MYSELF IN A FAT SUIT ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M NOT FAT BLAH BLAH BLAH.
The bottom line, I guess, is this: that girl should be more grateful. She's young, she's beautiful, she can't really even act that well, and she's on a hit show. The fact that she isn't is pretty terrible, which is why I think Man Med producers (Jon Hamm is one of them) left her in the fat suit for two years. I guess she's back in the bubble for now, but I have to say, I was sad to see that suit go. I feel like for an actress, the fat suit is the equivalent of a time-out, and I hope she's learned her lesson and can play nice with others.
