This Tide/ Downey Princess Commercial: I Have Questions
I keep seeing this commercial on Hulu Plus (again, WHY?), and I have just a couple of questions for parents out there.
OK, so-- first off, is it normal to let a kid wear a costume (or any piece of clothing) for A WHOLE WEEK? I feel like, take that disgusting garment off the kid and say "No, kid, you cannot wear this every single day, because that is disgusting, go ahead and cry all about it if you want." And, before you say "You don't understand, you don't have kids, please believe that I am the godmother that is nicknamed 'Auntie NO' because of my ability to completely ignore and not be moved by tantrums. That's how much I would not allow that kid to wear that dress for seven straight days. YUCK. That is nasty and I don't believe it's a real thing.
Also, I feel like this portrayal of a dad doing laundry is supposed to be so "edgy" because it's defying a gender stereotype, but like, is that still a real gender stereotype? If I were a dad, I think this commercial might offend me a little bit. Is it still so unusual for men to contribute to housework? Every dad I know (including my own) knows how to do laundry. It's 2013, ok? I know it will be shocking to Tide, but WOMEN ARE IN THE WORKPLACE AND DADS ARE DOING LAUNDRY. This commercial's theme might have been edgy if it aired in the eighties, but today I feel like it's just kind of silly to be calling it out.
I could be wrong on all this, though, so go ahead and tell me-- 1. Do kids really insist on wearing things every day for a week, and do you go along with this, and 2. Is it really so unusual for a dad to do laundry?
Please, fill me in.
