Several of my Facebook friends are doing NaNoWriMo this month (that's: National Novel Writing Month, for those of you who are not insane writers). This is where you write 50,000 words in one month, and I believe they are still accepting signups if you are feeling saucy and want to make this commitment.
To answer the question that several people have asked me, NO, I am not doing NaNoWriMo this year, for several reasons. I do think it's an awesome thing, and I highly recommend it, especially if you have writer's block or are really trying to get over the hump with your book's word count. Here's why I'm not doing it: 1) I have completed NaNoWriMo three times, and it is very hard. Not that I wouldn't do it again, but it does take a serious mental commitment to write that much in one month, plus you are for sure going to have to edit the s$%t out of what you write because it's going to be bad, and 2) I AM WRITING EVERY DAY ON THIS BLOG FOR A WHOLE YEAR DID YOU NOT NOTICE THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON?
I'm trying to figure out how to count up all the words I've written this year, to see if it actually equals more than the 50,000 I would write if I were doing NaNoWriMo. I know, I do post photos a couple of times per week, but this has actually been a good exercise in endurance and "sitting down and writing every single day," so it's kind of like the extendo version of NaNoWriMo anyway.
So, no, I am not doing THAT writing marathon, but I am doing one of my own creation. Does that answer the question? I hope so. I think my head would fall off if I tried to write more.
